On 23 November 2012 the Association of Interpreters and Translators in Bulgaria held an international conference at the National Justice Institute. The event was organised in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and was supported by New Bulgarian
University. The topic of the conference was:
"The situation of court interpretation in Bulgaria and the transposition of Directive 2010/64/EU of the European parliament and of the Council on the right to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings".
The speakers at the conference included: Denitsa Valkova, Deputy Minister of Justice; Petya Shishkova, Deputy Chair of Sofia Appellate Court and Head of the Criminal Division; Katerina Yocheva, PhD and Sylvia Tsoneva, PhD, NBU, Law Department, Liese Katschinka, President of the European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association (EULITA), Lyudmila Davies, court interpreter practicing in France and USA.
